Essentials oils smell nice and have many everyday uses, but not a lot of people take advantage of them. They bring more to the table than just a great smell. Below are some awesome benefits of my favorite essential oils.
Peppermint is a well know scent and one of the most popular essential oils. Peppermint oil can help a lot with clearing sinuses with its strong scent. Even taking a small whiff does wonders for opening up your nose. It’s also great for helping you focus. Using this oil before you study or take a test can really improve your production and concentration. Lastly, peppermint is great for calming your stomach because of indigestion or nausea. I personally use peppermint the most for this reason. Before I compete, I put a small amount around my nose to calm down any nervousness that can mess with my stomach and to help me really get in the zone and focus on my race.
Lavender is another great essential oil. It’s perfect for alleviating dry skin or eczema with its calming properties. Another great way to use lavender is when you need help sleeping. You can use a diffuser or I have bought the Bath & Body Works Sleep Spray in the scent lavender vanilla and it works wonders. You just lightly spray this over your pillows or sheets and breathe in all of the great benefits to help you fall asleep. My last way that I use lavender oil is when I take epsom salt baths. I take these to help relax my muscles, but I make sure to find one with lavender oil in it as well to really help my whole body and mind relax. The one I personally use is Dr. Teals Soothe & Sleep with lavender. When you poor this in the hot bath, it immediately turns your bathroom into an aromatherapy spa and begins to relax every part of you.
A lesser know essential oil is Chamomile. This oil is great for helping with anxiety and when you are stressed. It helps to soothe the body and mind for complete relaxation. A lot of times I drink chamomile tea before I go to sleep or when I’m sick. It’s delicate soothing smell really helps to relax you while its simple and sweet attributes allow it to reduce stress.
The last essential oil I’m going to feature is one of my favorite scents: jasmine. Jasmine oil has a bundle of different benefits. One is that it can improve your immunity and fight infections. This is great during the fall when school starts back up and you have to be around a lot of people again or when you have to take a flight and be in close courters with others. It is also good for boosting concentration because the smell wakes you up and starts to energize you. Perfect for when you need to get things done. Another benefit of jasmine is that it promotes healthy skin and can fight blemishes. You can mix it with your lip balm, shower gel, or even body lotion. Not to mention the smell is amazing and acts as a natural mood booster.
I personally have sensitive skin and a sensitive stomach so I love to incorporate theses oils into my daily life. I use to work at Bath & Body Works and my favorite section was the aromatherapy collection because it had all different types of oils infused into the products so you could find one of relieving stress or helping you focus. Not to mention they smell amazing! I also love to use oils when I get massages for track. Not only does the smell help me relax my mind, but when rubbed on the body the benefits go into my pores and straight to my bloodstream so my muscles receive the effects right away.
