Ever since I moved to California, I’ve noticed that my skin and hair have been more dry than normal. I’ve been getting dry patches on my face and by the end of the day, my hair is completely dried out. My guess is it’s from the dry desert heat that I’m not completely use to yet.
My whole life, whenever it would be hot out, that would come with tons of humidity and frizzy hair. I’ve been doing a ton of research and testing out new products to see what works best for me and I’ve compiled a list that I want to share with you! This list isn’t just for dryness coming from the heat, but also that can come with the cold winter months. In Ohio, every winter I would also notice a change of the moisture of my skin and hair too. Sooo here is how to combat dry skin and hair!

Dry Skin Fixes
Burt’s Bee Rose Water Toner – Not only has this helped with my dry skin, it is also AMAZING for clearing breakouts. This toner gets dirt off your face you didn’t even know was there. Seriously. This stuff is life changing.
Pearlessence Rose Hibiscus Water Face Mist – I love this face mist. It is gentle, cooling, and leaves my skin feeling super fresh. It not only helps add moisture to my skin, but it is also a great base that will help your lotion absorb better into your skin
Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask – I’ve just recently tried this product, and I’m pretty impressed with the results! You put on the mask right before bed, and while you sleep, this ultra smooth mask absorbs into your skin. When I woke up, my skin was extremeeeeely soft. Like baby butt soft. It says to wash it off in the morning, but I didn’t want to because it worked so well lol
Timeless Matrixyl 3000 Serum – This stuff right here is a game changer. You add a few drops to your lotion, and it becomes some magic serum that leaves your skin flawlessly soft. I don’t know how or why it does it, but I’m not asking any questions.
Vaseline Lotion Intensive Care – I’m always on the hunt for a good lotion that doesn’t dry out within the hour. So far this Vaseline Intensive Care lotion has been doing pretty well for me. If you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments!
Dry Hair Fixes
Bumble and Bumble While You Sleep Damage Repair Masque – To be honest, I was very skeptical about this product. It says to apply on dry hair. Usually, I only apply creams/masks onto wet hair, so it took me a few days to even try it. However, it’s actually a really great product! Even applied on dry hair it soaks in deeply to really moisturize overnight, and then you just wash it out in the morning!
Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil – I’ve been using this oil in my hair for a while now and I really love the shine that it gives. It’s also been super beneficial for locking in moisture to my hair as well.
Aussie 3-Minute Miracle Moist – This is definitely the OG of my hair products. Great as conditioner, great as a mask, great as a leave-in.
Overall Fixes
Drink Water – You know this. I know this. We gotta do better lol What I’ve done to help myself drink more water has been buying a Brita Water Filter and a cute water bottle to carry around with me. This way I can see exactly how much water I’ve had that day and drink more if I need to. Those links are to the exact ones I use!
Protection – By using protective hair styles like braids and twists, this can help keep moisture locked in your hair which will help with the overall health. Also, protect your skin from the sun with sunscreen AND from the cold winter wind by using a scarf to cover your face and neck. Trust me, that wind can be brutal. Living in Ohio for most of my life, I’ve experienced far more than my share.
I hope that these tips on how to combat dry skin and hair helped you! And if you do anything to help combat dry skin and hair, let me know in the comments!
