Over this Thanksgiving break, I got the rare opportunity to get some workouts in by myself and I had forgotten how much I loved them. I know many people like to have others around for motivation and company, which is great don’t get me wrong, but there is something about being by yourself and really getting into your workout that I find so liberating. Especially when you have a really tough workout ahead. In this post you will find out why working out by yourself can be one of the best things for you.
You Can Push Yourself to the Limit
One of my favorite things about working out alone is that I really get to test my limits. No one is around to judge your effort level or how crazy you may look when you’re going all out. When you are working out with a team or in a group, it can become easy to align your effort level with those surrounding you. However, when you are alone, you can push yourself without outside pressures.
You Can Cater Your Workout Completely to How You Feel
Not feeling the best today? Body is feeling more sore than normal? You know your body better than anyone else and can make your workout specifically to your needs. Somedays I just don’t feel the best and in a large group setting, it can be hard to get out what I need. When I train alone, I can take the extra time I may need to stretch out really well or get in a more intense warmup.
You Have Time to Get in Tune With Yourself
It’s just you and your thoughts in that workout, and even though it can be scary, the most rewarding feeling is when you conquer your fears and doubts and destroy a workout. This is when you really find out how tough you are. Did I let myself take it easy on that last round? Or did I push myself to be the best I can? Only you will know the answer to those questions and there is no hiding from yourself.
It’s the Best Time for Some “Me Time”
Not only is working out great for your physical health, but also mental health. I love when I can really get time to focus on myself and all that’s going on in my life. I can get out any aggression or sadness, or fly high on something amazing that happened that week. This is the time you get to really sort out how you are feeling about life. I love being able to understand my body and what works for it and what doesn’t. When I workout alone, a lot of times I realize what my weaknesses are and I can focus on making them better. I can put in some extra reps and be on my own time with no rush from others.
It’s so beneficial to get in some alone time throughout your week, even if it’s only at the gym. And it is liberating to sort out your feelings and to get in tune with yourself. Make sure to take some time this week for yourself, and try to push the limits of what you are capable of.
I hope you all have an amazing week of blessings and positivity <3
