Get Ready with Me: Morning of My First Track Meet

This past Friday was the start of the indoor season! We had a home meet here at French Field House with a few small schools so it was a great opportunity to test out my achilles and going all out. I’ve only had about two months of running in total, so I wasn’t too sure how I would perform but I was still excited to be out there with my team😊. If you haven’t already, you can check out my posts about my tips for a quick recovery after surgery and my first training steps back on the underwater treadmill!

On meet days, my go-to breakfast is homemade oatmeal (not the prepackaged stuff 😷) with fresh cut strawberries. All I add to the oats is cinnamon, honey, and a little bit of sugar. I make mine with water instead of milk because that’s just how I’ve always done it (and I’m lactose intolerant lol) I love it because it’s super easy to make, fills me up, and is easy on my stomach.

When I have the time, I really like to relax and pamper myself a little before the meet to calm my nerves and also boost my self confidence. I usually never have my nails done, but on special occasions, I like to buy the gel press on nails to spice things up a bit. I usually buy either Kiss or ImPress . I buy mine at CVS but I’ve linked both brands for you guys to check out!

Besides doing my nails, I always try to put on jewelry that is cute and simplistic while also not distracting while I run. I put on a small amount of makeup – a natural look is always my go-to. Lastly, I love to come up with new hairstyles to compete with. For this home meet I had four twists in my hair that led into two low buns.

For my first race since my surgery, I’d say I did pretty well. It can be tough to not perform up to my own standards, but I have to make myself take a step back and realize how much I’ve overcome in such a short time and how much better I will become each week.

My plans for next week is to continue training hard, take care of my body, and trust the process.

Let me know in the comments if any of you run track and have started your seasons or if you do a different sport!
